Hedging Match

In 2005, Llangattock Ploughing Society re-instated the annual hedging match with the first match held at New House Farm, Dingestow. In 2006, a fencing competition was added.

The 2012 Hedging and Fencing match will be held at New House Farm, Newcastle, Monmouth by kind permission of Ray and Margaret Bowen on Sunday 28th October.

The 2011 Hedging and Fencing match was held at New Ordden Farm, Whitecastle, Abergavenny by kind permission of Bryan and Lyn Bayliss on Sunday 27th February. Champion hedger was Mrs Rita Davies of Brecon. Champion fencing team was Dan Greenhill & Ross Francis.

The 2010 match was also held at New Ordden Farm on Saturday 6th March. Champion hedger was the host, Bryan Bayliss. Champion fencing team was Dan Greenhill & Ross Francis.

The 2009 match was held at Lower Llantrothy Farm, by kind permission of Lyndon and Liz Edwards. Champion Hedger was Elwyn Davies of Talgarth.

Every year, Llangattock Ploughing Society runs at least one practice day in the run-up to the match. One-to-one tuition is available from experienced hedgers. So, if you are an absolute beginner, or you are seeking to improve your hedgelaying skills, why not come along.
