Welcome to the Llangattock Ploughing Society
Welcome to the Llangattock-Vibon-Avel & District Ploughing and Agricultural Society. A variety of events are put on throughout the year that revolve around promoting and preserving countryside crafts and skills. An increasingly popular element of the Society is the vintage section with enthusiasts putting on working demonstrations and displays at the annual ploughing match & show and an annual Road Run.
The Society was established in 1888 and is centred on the village of Llangattock-Vibon-Avel and surrounding parishes, near Monmouth in the Welsh Borders. President of the Society is Jeff Preece.
Activities
The Society has a strong social element and holds a number of activities during the year. The main event of the calendar is the Annual Ploughing Match, held in September of each year and which hosts a wide range of activities, displays and stalls. In addition there is a Hedging and Fencing Match, a Sheep Shearing Competition, and a range of other activities throughout the year. Meetings
The Society meets on the first Friday of every month at the Conservative Club, Monmouth, commencing at 8.30 pm. New members are always welcomed.

Ploughing Match & Show
The annual ploughing match and show was held on Sunday 16th September at Ash Flats, courtesy of Paul and Liz Price and the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club. Around 60 ploughmen took part and the Champion Ploughman was John Hodges, Malmesbury, Wiltshire.
In the produce tent, there was a wonderful display of flowers, vegetables and handicrafts. Main winners below:

In the Children's Classes, the main winners were:
The Mary Kathleen Bowen Salver for the most points in the Children's Classes - Hattie Clulee
The St. Dials Cup for most points in the Under 5s - Charlie Malsom
The Olive Barrell Cup for most points in the Under 9s - Lucy Evans
The Ronni Ruck Cup for the most points in the Under 12s - Georgia Parry & Ieuan Probert
The Beryl Jones Cup for the most points in the Under 16s - Molly Clulee
In the Young Adults section, the Sutton Perpetual Cup was won by Hattie Clulee.
In the Sheep Competitions, the Llangattock Perpetual Tray for the Champion Sheep was John Biggs for a pair of light-faced yearling ewes. The Reserve Championship went to David Davies for a pair of dark-faced yearling ewes.
In the Native Breeds, the Champion was Robert Evans with his Badger-Faced Welsh Mountain ram lamb. The Reserve Champion was Janet Parry with a Ryeland Ewe.
